The co-authors Dwight Van de Vate, Jr. ( philosophy) and Tom Hood (sociology)taught together at the niversity of Tennessee, Knoxville corresponded with Goffman and presented these essays as lectures to students.

Professor Emeritus

Thomas Hood, phd.

Professor Emeritus Hood received his doctoral training at Duke University completing a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1969. Professor Emeritus Van de Vate received his doctoral training at Yale University and taught a several universities before teaching for most of his career at the University to Tennessee , Knoxville. Hood came directly to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from Duke and taught there until he retired in 2004. Both Hood and Van de Vate were active scholars and published in journals in their field.

Professor Emeritus Van de Vate published Romantic Love- A Philosophical Inquiry. Until he was incapacitated by a stroke Van de Vate enjoyed painting particularly the human figure. Hood continues to write and publish poetry.
